Alabama – Alabama is starting the week on a cool and mostly dry note, but summer-like heat is set to make a comeback over the next several days. Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 90s by the latter half of the week before a weekend front brings beneficial rain and a return to cooler, more comfortable weather.
Cool Start With a Few Showers in Southwest Alabama
Early Monday morning, a few showers were moving across Southwest Alabama, while the rest of the state stayed cool and dry. Temperatures were mostly in the 50s and 60s, with Cullman dropping to a crisp 48 degrees just before daybreak.
The early showers over the southwest counties are not expected to last long, and the rest of the day should turn partly sunny with highs between 85 and 90 degrees.
Heat Builds Through Thursday
Heat levels will continue to rise through the week as an upper-level ridge builds over the region. Many communities are expected to reach the low 90s during the latter half of the week. Showers will remain few and far between through Thursday, so most people can expect dry, sunny, and warm conditions.
Overnight lows will also trend warmer, climbing from the upper 50s early in the week to around 70 degrees by midweek, making for muggier mornings.
Scattered Showers Possible Friday
By Friday, scattered showers may develop, mainly over the southern half of Alabama. Summer-like temperatures will continue, with highs between 88 and 92 degrees for most locations.
Saturday Looks Relatively Wet
The pattern changes heading into the weekend. Saturday looks relatively wet as moisture continues to stream northward, the ridge weakens, and a surface front approaches the state. This will not be an all-day rain, but periods of rain are likely, along with some thunder at times.
At this point, severe thunderstorms are not expected.
Sunday Rain Focuses on Southeast Alabama
On Sunday, the best chance of rain will shift to the southeast part of the state as the front pushes southward. Areas farther north should begin to dry out behind the front.
Beneficial Rain Totals of 1 to 3 Inches
The weekend rain will be welcome news for many areas. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are likely across much of Alabama, which should help lawns, gardens, and farmland after the recent dry stretch. Some locations could pick up a bit more depending on where the heaviest rain sets up.
Cooler Weather Behind the Front
Once the front moves through, temperatures are expected to settle back into the 80s for highs, with lows dropping into the 60s, bringing a more fall-like feel back to the state.
