In eastern Pennsylvania, Philadelphia could reach about 82 degrees, while Allentown, Easton, Doylestown, and Norristown should be near 81. Scranton and Mount Pocono are expected to land around 79, with Wilkes-Barre near 78.
Western Pennsylvania will also be warm. Pittsburgh and areas around Washington, Beaver, and New Castle should reach the low 80s, while Johnstown and Somerset will be near 78. Even the northwest corner will be pleasant, with Erie around 74 degrees and Warren and Bradford in the upper 70s.
Friday: Even Warmer in the South and East
On Friday, temperatures will climb even higher for parts of southern and eastern Pennsylvania, where highs could reach the mid 80s or warmer. Philadelphia could push toward 87 degrees, while Harrisburg, Carlisle, and Elizabethtown may reach around 86. Doylestown, Easton, Chambersburg, and Ephrata could hit about 85, with Allentown, Reading, Lebanon, Norristown, and West Chester near 84.
These readings would be well above normal for early October and could feel especially warm for anyone who has already switched to fall clothing.
Cold Front Brings a Sharp Drop in the Northwest
While the south and east heat up, the northwest corner of the state will head in the opposite direction on Friday. A cold front moving through will send temperatures tumbling into the 50s.
Places like Erie, Meadville, Warren, Corry, and Bradford are expected to see highs only in the upper 40s to low 50s, a drop of more than 20 degrees from Thursday. Areas just to the south, including Butler, Clarion, and New Castle, will fall somewhere in between as the front moves through during the day.
The difference across the state will be dramatic, with temperatures ranging from around 50 degrees in the northwest to the upper 80s in the southeast on the same afternoon.
Possibly the Last 80-Degree Days of the Year
This warm stretch may be the last time many Pennsylvanians hit 80 degrees this year. October is typically the month when temperatures begin to fall more steadily, and it is also when parts of the state often see their first snowflakes of the season, especially in the higher elevations and the northern tier.
