Hamilton has improved perimeter shooting, rebounding as 2022-2023 season approaches

HAMILTON — While the Hamilton High School boys basketball team will only return one starter for the 2022-2023 season, coach Kevin Higgins said there’s enough talent on this year’s squad that can boost Big Blue’s chances of success.

“We feel we have more players that can contribute and impact a varsity game,” said Higgins, who enters his fifth season at Hamilton’s helm. “We have better perimeter shooting and should be a good rebounding team on both ends of the floor.”

Senior guard Cooper Matthews is the lone returning player from a squad that went 7-13 overall and 5-9 in the Greater Miami Conference a season ago. Matthews, who stands at 6-foot-1, averaged 14.7 points a game last year, adding 3.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals.

“We feel we can develop into a highly competitive team,” Higgins said.

Players to keep an eye on, according to Higgins, are junior forward Andrea Holden, junior guard Dre Tillery and junior forward Demetrius Berry. Higgins said Holden has Division I college potential.

Rounding out the roster for the Big Blue are seniors Hassan Robertson, Davis Avery, Sire Riggins and Seth Hines; junior Hakeem Smith; and sophomores Jailen Morris and Peyton Davis.

Hamilton starts the season off against Badin at home on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. … It’s the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
