NEW MIAMI — New Miami High School announced Wednesday morning that Chris Fogle will be the next head coach to lead its football program.
Fogle takes over for Andy Stuckert, who recently accepted the head coach position at Talawanda.
Fogle was an assistant coach at Trotwood Madison and a coordinator at Dixie and Preble Shawnee before becoming the head football coach at Twin Valley South the past three seasons.
Twin Valley South went 11-12 the last two seasons in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference.
“I’m really excited about this next chapter,” Fogle said. “I felt like this was a new calling — to start with a fresh area and a fresh mindset. I’m really excited about the opportunity to turn the program back around.
“The biggest part of it is stability. I want to bring that stability back to the community. I’m eager and ready to go.”
Fogle, 52, will finish up his teaching and assistant track coach positions at Twin Valley South until the end of the school year. He plans to meet with the New Miami students and the football players next week.
Fogle, who will teach mathematics at New Miami next school year, has been with the Twin Valley South school district for the last 12 years.
“We had a very difficult decision to make between other qualified candidates,” New Miami athletic director Eric Hayes said, “but Coach Fogle’s experience on the field along with his presence and influence in the classroom and hallways ultimately proved to be the difference. We’re excited to bring him to New Miami.”
New Miami has gone 2-17 the last two seasons, including an 0-10 record this past fall. The Vikings hosted their first-ever home playoff game in a 45-15 loss to New Bremen in 2019, when they went 10-0 in the regular season.
New Miami won the Miami Valley Conference Gray Division three years in a row from 2018-2020.
“The plan is to reach out to the community and former coaching staff members in order to move forward with the program,” Fogle said. “The hope is to get the program back to where it was and to new heights.”
Having coached in the Dayton area for the majority of his coaching career, Fogle said he’s looking forward to familiarizing himself more with the Cincinnati high school football market.
Fogle is a 1990 Valley View graduate and an Eaton resident. He is married to his wife of 22 years, Amber, who is an intervention specialist at Twin Valley South. They have four children.
“One of the things that I can offer is that I’ve taught and coached in small communities,” Fogle said. “I found that my home is at small schools. I understand how tight-knit and small communities work. They rally around the focus of the community. It’s always been that way with small schools.”
Fogle said he plans on bringing former New Miami head coach Jim Jewett on staff as a defensive coordinator. Jewett coached the Vikings from 2011-2013.
Fogle expects the Vikings to run a 4-3, multiple front defense “depending on what we have skill wise.”
The offense will run a two-back, shotgun set, according to Fogle, with a 60-40 run focus.
“Right now, I just don’t know what I’ll be working with and what we have skill wise. We will modify to skill set.”
New Miami opens the 2023 season on the road Aug. 18against Gamble Montessori.
“If you build stability, you can always build tradition,” Fogle said. “I know how a small community and school works, and I’m looking forward to what’s to come at New Miami when we get things rolling.”
