ST. CLAIR TWP. — The Edgewood High School boys basketball team will look to use its quickness and speed during the upcoming season.
Second-year Cougars coach Jason Osterman said that could be the recipe for another Southwest Ohio Conference championship.
“We have a lot of depth and athleticism that should allow us to play with tempo and physicality at both ends of the floor,” said Osterman, who led Edgewood to a SWOC title in his first season at the helm.
The Cougars went 13-9 overall and 9-1 in the SWOC a season ago.
“We have a good group of guys that know their roles, are coachable and expect to win night in and night out,” Osterman said.
Returning for the Cougars are seniors Peyton Smith and Colton Hunt. Smith brings back 9.3 points a contest last season, while Hunt had 6.2.
“Peyton Smith and Colton Hunt are both returning starters that will play major roles for us on both sides of the floor,” Osterman said. “Both Peyton and Colton are great leaders and bring a lot of experience from last year’s SWOC championship team.”
Senior Evan Swartz also saw significant minutes last year at the forward position.
“We will look for him to control the paint and be a physical presence,” Osterman said of Swartz.
Rounding out the roster for the Cougars are seniors Jake Valerio, Anthony Babb, Jaxon Sizemore, Sami Besingi and Ryan Wirtley; and juniors Eddie Thompson, Jaylen Barry, Brayden Smith and Connor Ballantyne.
Edgewood opens up the season on Monday, Nov. 28 at home against Little Miami at 7:30 p.m.
