HAMILTON — Badin High School boys basketball coach Pat Kreke is keeping a keen eye on the next man up.
The Rams are still looking to find their identity as the 2022-2023 season gets underway, according to the second-year Badin mentor.
“We’re young, we’re inexperienced, and they need to find their identity,” Kreke said. “We will have to find players who can put it in the basket. That is yet to be seen. We will be watching to see who steps up.”
Returning for the Rams, who went 7-15 overall, 1-9 in the Greater Catholic League Co-ed a season ago, are senior guards Diego DeCello and Pate Goldberg. DeCello brings back 7.9 points and 2.8 rebounds a game, while Goldberg adds 7 points a contest. Badin added junior Aidan Brown, who transferred from Ross and was fourth in the Southwest Ohio Conference with 12.7 points a game.
The football team recently lost in the regional finals, which united the entire basketball team together for at least a week’s worth of practice. Alex Ritzie, Connor Wright, Rowan Brown, Drew Enginger and Cooper Ollis go from the gridiron to the court.
Rounding out the roster is senior forward Nick Solazzo, junior guard Matthew Brugger, junior center Grant Wissman, sophomore forward Nathan Lindesmith and freshman guard James Brink.
“We lost the majority of our scoring to graduation,” Kreke said. Logan Neu, who graduated last year, led the Rams in scoring with 15.9 points a game.
The Rams open the season up at Hamilton tonight at 7:30 p.m. … It’s the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
