2023-2024 Fairfield Indians — Girls Basketball

2023-2024 Season Snapshot

Fairfield Indians

Carl Woods enters his second season as head coach of the Fairfield girls basketball team.

Last year, the Indians went 11-12 overall and 6-10 in the Greater Miami Conference.

Fairfield graduated two four-year varsity players in Kylee Booker and Breyel Kidd, but return an experienced squad — which includes Richardson, who is an All-State Honorable Mention and All-GMC First Team performer, and Samples, who is a Wheeling University commit. Also returning are Lexi Hayes, Kobi Crim and Kayla McCoy.

“We look forward to some other players playing even bigger roles this year with juniors Kayla McCoy and Lexi Hayes poised for big years,” Woods said. “We can score in a variety of ways and will play a multitude of defenses. Additionally, the sophomores we have on the varsity roster and a solid Freshman class, we have a tremendous pipeline of younger talent at the middle schools and certainly look forward to success this year and for years to come.”

Players to keep an eye on:
• Myka Richardson, senior — Voted All-State Honorable Mention and first team All-GMC as a junior. Led in the team with 11.1 points and 2.5 assists a game last year and was second on the team in rebounding with 4.3 boards a game.
• Kimberlin Samples, senior — Versatile player who recently committed to Wheeling University. Samples has expanded her range and will play a variety of roles for the Indians this year.
• Lexi Hayes and Kayla McCoy, juniors — They will be looked upon to play more prominent roles this year. They will help with ball-handling duties, and Fairfield will certainly rely on them for scoring.
• Dani Marsh, junior — Gained valuable minutes last year as a sophomore and quickly became one of the Indians’ sharpshooters. She will be expected to do the same and can pick up the point guard duties as a back-up.
• Kobi Crim, sophomore — Athletic, versatile player who comes from a tremendous bloodline of basketball talent. She’s expected to be a key contributor in the post/wing this year.
• Ella Brooks, sophomore — Brooks played mostly JV last year, but had an outstanding offseason. Woods expects her to be a big contributor this year.

Expectations — Finish in the Top 5 of the GMC and make it to Districts, according to Woods.

Coach’s Quote — “We have a tremendous pipeline of younger talent at the middle schools and certainly look forward to their successes this year and for years to come.”
