MIAMI ATHLETICS

OXFORD — Three members of the 2023-24 Miami University hockey team have signed pro deals since the RedHawks’ season ended earlier this month. Matthew Barbolini has joined the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, while Jack Clement (Cincinnati Cyclones) and PJ Fletcher (Florida Everblades) are heading to the ECHL.

Barbolini, Miami’s leading scorer this season, produced 85 points in 125 career games for the Red and White. The senior forward from Williamsville, N.Y. put up 11 goals and 14 assists in 31 appearances this year and led the RedHawks in goals during each of his four seasons with the program. Barbolini, a 2024 Hobey Baker Award nominee, signed a two-year AHL contract beginning in the 2024-25 season and will be on a professional tryout with the Marlies for the remainder of this season.

Clement skated in 166 contests for Miami over the past five seasons, tying for second on the program’s all-time list in games played. A five-time member of the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, he put up 33 career points, including 10 goals. Clement served as team captain each of the past two years and blocked 50 shots this season to lead the RedHawks. The defenseman from Detroit, Mich. made his debut for the Cincinnati Cyclones on March 22.

Fletcher shared the team lead in goals this year with Barbolini, tallying a career-high 11 to go along with a dozen assists. In three seasons with the Red and White, the senior forward from Dana Point, Calif. played in 108 games while compiling 24 goals and 38 assists. Fletcher joins the Florida Everblades with eight games left in the ECHL regular season.
