High School Softball: Big Blue stays unbeaten with win over Colerain

By Vince Kiep, The Report

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Big Blue were able to keep their softball winning streak going, as they took down the Colerain Cardinals 7-2 on Tuesday night.

Hamilton has won seven straight to start the season.

The first inning started out with Emili Schappacher striking out the side. The scoring began for the Big Blue with the first pitch of the bottom half of the first — as Alivia Rupp hit a homerun to give the Big Blue the early 1-0 lead.

It was a lead they would not lose the rest of the game.

Hamilton grabbed another run to finish off the inning. A quiet second inning for both teams was followed by Colerain gaining a run in the top half of the third.

The Big Blue followed that up with two runs in the bottom half of the third to give the Big Blue the 4-1 lead. The fourth and the fifth innings were both scoreless for Colerain and Hamilton.

Colerain got a chance in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4 as the Cardinals were able to add on another run. But they left a runner on base, and the tying run at the plate, as the top half of the sixth ended with the score of 4-2.

The Big Blue scored three more runs in the bottom half of the sixth to give them a 7-2 lead. This lead would remain for the Big Blue, as Hamilton moved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 record in the Greater Miami Conference.

Colerain will continue their quest for its first win, slipping to 0-4.

Sierra Hoyte led the Blue with three RBIs, as Alivia Rupp, Emili Schappacher and Reese Thieken all had hits. They all three ended the day with two hits. Theiken, and Schappacher also both had doubles. Heather Krause had the only steal for the Big Blue.

Schappacher had an amazing day pitching, as she had a complete game going seven innings, giving up four hits and one earned run — with 15 strikeouts.

Schappacher leads the GMC in wins, as well as strikes outs, now having 71 strikeouts on the year. She also has a .78 ERA on the season.

The next game for the Big Blue will be at home on Thursday against the Princeton Vikings.
