Players to Watch — Hitting: Ben Voegele (30 hits, 27 runs, 19 RBI, .417), Ryan Davis (18 hits, 16 runs, .353), Nate Bray (.393) and Austin Farris (13 hits, 14 runs). Pitching: Aiden Vanderbilt (2-1), Ty Graf (1-0) and Ian Busch (1-0).

Coach’s Comments — “I’m excited about this team. They work extremely hard and are buying into a new system. We don’t return a lot of at-bat experience, but the returners had good seasons last year. Ben Voegele hit 417 as a freshman while playing SS last year. All-city and all-conference. Ryan Davis started in RF last year and hit .300 as a junior and has really improved his defense in the OF. Nate Bray will anchor 1B this year and the middle of the lineup. He hit 330 last year as a sophomore after being called up midseason. Austin Farris returns after seeing significant time last year as a sophomore where he was on base with a .300-plus OBP. Our pitching and defense are going to be really good. We have 12 guys that I feel can compete against anyone day in and day out. Great problem to have. Seniors Naehring, Vanderbilt, Kist, Graf and Asher-Palazzolo anchor the staff. But sophomores Nolan Ertel and Kerry Snyder will also see significant time. Nate Bray, Ian Busch and Nathan Jester have also had strong preseasons. Logan Hammons is a hard-throwing 6 foot 5 right-hander with a lot of potential. … The work ethic and buy-in to do the little things. We have preached it since our 6 man groups in the fall and they are all in. Leadership and camaraderie as well- this is a fun team to be around and they enjoy putting in the work. … We have focused on the little things. We talk about it every day. We aren’t going to hit a lot of 3-run home runs, but we will be able to execute, hit behind runners and play small ball.”
