Wild Burro Blocks Moreno Valley Road Like a Traffic Cop and Refuses to Move Until California Driver Pays the “Pet Tax”
MORENO VALLEY, CALIFORNIA — A California driver found himself at an unusual checkpoint when a wild burro walked into the middle of the road, stuck its head into his car window and refused to let him leave until he gave it some attention.
Chris Ogle shared the moment on TikTok as @chrisogle05, and the clip quickly charmed viewers, drawing about 1.6 million views, more than 298,000 likes and over 5,000 comments.
Donkey Spots the Car and Heads Straight Over
In the video, the donkey is standing in the middle of the road, seemingly waiting for someone to stop. As soon as Chris brings his car to a halt, the animal walks right up to the driver’s side.
It wastes no time poking its head through the window for a closer inspection of the vehicle and its occupant.
Moreno Valley’s Unofficial Four-Legged Mascot
The donkey is believed to be one of the wild burros that roam the area. These animals are considered Moreno Valley’s unofficial mascot, and locals are used to seeing them near the roads.
“They Will Stop You Like They’re the Police”
Chris explained that the burros approach cars because they want to be petted or are hoping for food. He joked that they will stop drivers like they are the police.
That is exactly what happened in his video.
No Snacks, No Problem, but a Pet Is Required
Chris apologized to the donkey, telling it he did not have anything to give it. That did not convince the animal to move on.
Even when Chris told it he needed to go, the donkey stayed put. It was not until he gave it a little scratch that the burro finally stepped aside and let him drive away.
A First-Time Donkey Encounter for the Driver
For Chris, the moment was a fun surprise. He admitted he had never petted a donkey before. Judging by how confidently it approached the car, however, this did not appear to be the donkey’s first traffic stop.
“License, Registration and a Few Carrots”
Viewers loved the police comparison. One joked that the donkey would need license, registration, proof of insurance and a few carrots. Another declared that drivers have to pay the pet tax because it’s the law.
Several people quoted a well-known animated donkey character voiced by Eddie Murphy, while another said the donkeys were simply sightseeing the humans.
Viewers Scold Him for Showing Up Without Treats
Many commenters playfully criticized Chris for not being prepared. One felt bad for the “poor lil buddy” and urged him to keep carrots in his car next time. Others said they would carry a whole stash of snacks if they lived nearby.
“I Need to Tell My Husband We Are Moving”
The clip had some viewers ready to relocate. One asked where Chris lives so she could tell her husband they were moving. Another said they wished they had donkey pet checkpoints where they live.
A Fun Break From His Usual Car Content
Chris usually posts opinion videos and custom car builds, making this sweet encounter a big change from his normal content, and one that clearly struck a chord with viewers.
A Gentle Reminder About Wild Animals
While the moment was adorable, the burros are still wild animals. Drivers in the area should slow down, watch for animals on the road, and follow local guidance about interacting with or feeding wildlife.
