North Carolina Enjoys a Crisp, Comfortable Tuesday With Highs in the 70s, Low Humidity, and Gusty Winds Along the Coast

North Carolina – Tuesday is shaping up to be a very nice day across North Carolina. Cooler, crisp air has worked its way across the state, bringing partly to mostly sunny skies and low humidity for everyone. Highs will reach the 70s for most areas, with some 60s in the mountains. After some areas of morning fog, conditions will turn tranquil for much of the state, though it will be windy along the coast, where gusts could reach 20 to 30 mph at times.

Morning Fog Gives Way to Sunshine

Some areas started the day with patchy fog, especially in valleys, low-lying spots, and areas near rivers and lakes. Drivers heading out early should use low-beam headlights, slow down, and leave extra space between vehicles until the fog lifts.

As the morning goes on, the fog will burn off, and sunshine will take over for much of the day.

Low Humidity for Everyone

One of the best parts of Tuesday’s forecast is the low humidity. The muggy air that lingered across much of the state has been replaced by drier, more comfortable air, making it feel like a true fall day. Even areas near the coast will notice a big difference.

Mountains Stay Cool in the 60s

The North Carolina mountains will be the coolest part of the state. Highlands is expected to reach about 63 degrees, while Todd, Cashiers, and Newland top out near 64. Sparta, Banner Elk, Boone, and Brevard should reach about 65, with Spruce Pine near 66.

Lower valleys will be warmer. Asheville is forecast to reach around 70 degrees, while Marion and Columbus come in near 71. Hot Springs should reach about 73, Cherokee around 74, and Franklin and Sylva near 75. Murphy in the far southwestern corner could reach about 76 degrees.

Piedmont Highs in the Low 70s

Across the Piedmont, highs will mostly land in the low to mid 70s. Mount Airy and Elkin should reach about 70 degrees, while Winston-Salem, Danbury, Roxboro, Oxford, Mebane, and Norlina are expected to reach around 71. Greensboro, Durham, Raleigh, Asheboro, Hickory, Shelby, and Statesville should top out near 72.

Farther south, Mooresville, Troy, and Sanford should reach about 73, while Charlotte comes in near 74 and Monroe around 75 degrees.

Warmest in Southeastern North Carolina

The warmest temperatures will be found across southeastern North Carolina. Whiteville, Wilmington, and Calabash are expected to reach about 76 degrees. Laurinburg, St. Pauls, Lumberton, Clinton, Wallace, Ocean Isle, and Bald Head Island should top out near 75, while Pinehurst, Fayetteville, Kinston, Jacksonville, Leland, and Southport come in near 74.

Eastern North Carolina and the Coast

In eastern North Carolina, highs will mostly be in the low 70s. Rocky Mount, Greenville, New Bern, Windsor, and Plymouth should reach about 73 degrees, while Gates and Edenton are near 72, and Wilson around 71.

Along the coast, temperatures will be a bit cooler. Manteo is expected to reach about 69 degrees, while Corolla, Avon, Elizabeth City, and Surf City come in near 70. Hatteras, Ocracoke, Morehead City, and Emerald Isle should reach about 71, with Atlantic near 72.

Windy Along the Coast

While winds will be light across much of the state, coming from the northeast at 3 to 10 mph, it will be a different story along the coast. Gusts could reach 20 to 30 mph at times, especially along the Outer Banks and exposed beaches.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for coastal waters, meaning conditions could be hazardous for smaller boats. Boaters should check marine forecasts before heading out and consider postponing trips if conditions are rough.

Rough Surf and Rip Currents

The gusty northeast winds could also lead to rough surf and an increased risk of rip currents along the beaches. Swimmers should use caution, stay near lifeguards where available, and avoid swimming in rough conditions.

A Great Day for Outdoor Activities

With sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and low humidity, Tuesday is a great day to get outside. It is perfect weather for hiking, biking, yard work, outdoor dining, or a walk in the park. Fall colors are developing in the mountains, making it a great time for a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

More Nice Weather Ahead

The pleasant pattern is expected to continue, with drier air and plenty of sunshine for the rest of the week. Residents should take advantage of the comfortable fall weather while it lasts.
