California Mom of Five Learns Her Late Father Was Not Her Biological Dad From DNA Taken Before His Cremation, and Her Mother Refuses a Paternity Test
CALIFORNIA — A California mom says a DNA test taken after her father’s death confirmed what she had quietly wondered for years: the man who raised her was not her biological father. When she turned to her mother for answers, she says her mother refused to take a DNA test and denied knowing the truth.
Jocelyn Elizabeth, a mother of five behind the TikTok account @stradafamily, shared the emotional revelation in a video that drew about 693,000 views, 39,600 likes and nearly 1,000 comments.
A Traveling Family Creator Facing a Painful Discovery
Jocelyn is a family content creator who travels full-time with her husband and children, and they appear in most of her videos. Originally from California, she was in Ohio when she shared this story.
Years of Doubt Over Looking Nothing Like Her Father
Jocelyn said she had always wondered whether her father was really her biological dad, mostly because she did not look anything like him.
Saving Hair and Nails Before Her Father’s Cremation
After her father passed away, and before he was cremated, Jocelyn kept some of his hair and nails so she could have a DNA test done.
She said the results would either “open up a whole new can of worms” in her life or finally put the question to rest.
DNA Results Show a 0 Percent Probability of Paternity
When the results came back, they showed a 0 percent probability that the man who raised her was her biological father.
Jocelyn broke down crying and screaming in the video. “She lied to me my whole life,” she said about her mother.
Asking Her Mother for an Honest Conversation After 40 Years
Jocelyn then shared a text exchange with her mother. She asked her to sit down for an “honest conversation” after a 40-year wait and offered to have her mother take a paternity-related DNA test as well.
Mother Points to Past Drug Use Around the Time of Conception
In the messages, her mother said that she and Jocelyn’s late father had been heavily using cocaine during the period before Jocelyn was conceived, claiming it nearly took their lives.
She said it was during that time she became pregnant, adding that Jocelyn’s father had also done “other things” Jocelyn did not know about. According to her mother, he claimed the child was his, and that ended the discussion.
“No, I Won’t Do a DNA Test, Absolutely Not. Never!”
Her mother also called Jocelyn’s late father a “freak” and said he would have lied if she had asked whether he was the father. She insisted she did not keep a secret because she “didn’t know.”
When Jocelyn pushed for a test, her mother firmly refused.
Jocelyn Says She Will Look Into Legal Options
Jocelyn replied that she would look into her legal options. She also told her mother she felt sorry for her lack of accountability, adding that her father was “a much better human being” and thanking her, bitterly, for passing her off to a “stranger” who raised her.
“That’s a Father,” Viewers Remind Her
Many viewers were heartbroken for Jocelyn and critical of her mother’s replies, with one calling them “horrific” and another describing a deep sense of betrayal.
Others reminded her that DNA does not erase love, saying that the man who loved and cared for her was still her father in every way that matters.
Seeking Healing Through Trauma Therapy
At the end of her video, Jocelyn said goodbye to her family as she traveled to Mexico for several weeks of intensive childhood trauma therapy following the revelation.
