North Carolina – The state is set for a changing Saturday as a cool morning gives way to a warm, bright afternoon across most regions. Residents stepping outside early will notice a crisp feel in the air, but temperatures are expected to climb steadily through the afternoon and into the evening, with most areas reaching the 70s to near 80 degrees.
Partly to Mostly Sunny Skies for Most of the State
The bigger picture for Saturday is a pleasant one. Partly to mostly sunny skies will cover the mountains, Piedmont, and much of the Coastal Plain, making it a great day for outdoor plans, college football tailgates, and weekend errands. The only real exception will be the far eastern edge of the state, where clouds are expected to stay more stubborn throughout the day.
Warmest Readings Across Central and Southern NC
The Sandhills and southern Coastal Plain will see some of the warmest temperatures of the day. St. Pauls is expected to lead the way near 81 degrees, while Raleigh, Fayetteville, Sanford, Pinehurst, Clayton, and Lumberton should all reach around 80. Charlotte, Mooresville, and Monroe are forecast near 79, with Durham, Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Goldsboro also landing in the upper 70s. Greensboro, Statesville, Asheboro, and Shelby should top out near 78, while Hickory, Mount Airy, and Roxboro sit around 77.
Cooler Air Holds in the Mountains
The North Carolina mountains will stay noticeably cooler, especially at higher elevations. Boone is expected to reach around 71, with Banner Elk, Newland, and Spruce Pine near 72. Sparta will be one of the coolest spots in the state at around 70 degrees. Asheville should climb to about 76, while lower valley locations like Cherokee and Hot Springs could warm to near 78. Highlands, Cashiers, and Brevard will stay in the low to mid 70s.
Clouds, Breezy Winds, and Isolated Showers Along the Outer Banks
Conditions along the coast will look different from the rest of the state. The Outer Banks will see mostly cloudy skies, and a couple of isolated showers are possible there during the day. Temperatures will also run cooler, with Corolla near 70, Manteo and Avon around 71, Hatteras near 72, and Ocracoke around 73. A north wind at 10 to 25 mph will keep things breezy in the east.
Farther south along the coast, conditions improve with more sunshine. Morehead City and Emerald Isle should reach around 74, Jacksonville and New Bern near 76, and the southern beaches, including Ocean Isle, Calabash, Southport, and Bald Head Island, will warm into the upper 70s.
Dry and Comfortable Everywhere Else
Outside of the Outer Banks, the rest of North Carolina is expected to remain dry and comfortable, offering one of the nicer late-September Saturdays of the season. A light jacket may help in the early morning hours, but it will be short-sleeve weather for most by the afternoon.
