ST. CLAIR TWP. — The Edgewood High football team did what it needed to do to take care of business on Friday night. Tavionne Crosby had a lot to do with jump-starting it all.
The sophomore scampered for a 96-yard touchdown jaunt on the Cougars’ first possession, and Edgewood bulled its way ahead for a 62-12 Division II playoff victory over Columbus West at Kumler Field.
“I was just gone. I was just in the moment,” said Crosby, who finished 166 yards on 5 carries and scoring three touchdowns.
“This was big. If we can keep the same energy for next week and keep going and keep that confidence, I think we can keep winning,” Crosby added. “When we keep it together and play as a team, we’re pretty dang good.”
No. 8 Edgewood (4-3) hosts No. 9 Troy on Friday at 7 p.m. at Kumler.
“Tavionne Crosby, he’s a workhorse kind of kid,” Cougars coach Scott Clemmons said. “He gets in there in the weight room and gets after it. He doesn’t say a whole lot. Just a quiet kid that goes about his business and likes to play football.”
