MONROE — Tim Kellis was approved by the Monroe Local Schools Board of Education on Monday, June 24 as the next varsity golf coach for the Hornets.
A veteran in the Monroe High School and Butler County coaching circles, Kellis also serves as the Monroe varsity softball coach in the spring. He has been the junior varsity golf coach for the last three seasons.
“I am extremely excited to announce Coach Tim Kellis as our next Varsity Golf Coach,” Monroe athletic director Eric Silverman said. “Coach Kellis had done an outstanding job over the last three years as our Junior Varsity Coach and I look forward to his leadership as the head of our Golf Program. Coach Kellis is a veteran coach who has led programs at both the high school and collegiate levels.
“Tim Kellis is a person of the highest character and believes wholeheartedly in using athletics to prepare students for success both academically and in life,” Silverman added. “We’re incredibly lucky to have a person like Coach Kellis in Hornet Country and I’m excited for him to assume this role within our Athletic Program.”
Kellis noted that he’s ready to get to work in terms of providing a platform for Monroe golfers to improve.
“We will instill weekly competition within our program plan for varsity playing time,” Kellis said. “We want our players to strive to become better players every shot, every hole, every round and every match. Our goals will always be to win the league championship and advance in the state tournament as both a team as well as individuals.”
There will be an informational meeting for Monroe athletes and parents interested in participating in the golf program on Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Monroe Elementary School cafeteria.
“I would like to thank the Administration and the School Board for their confidence in approving me as the Varsity Golf Coach at Monroe,” Kellis said. “Following in the steps of former Coach Bob Hunt will not be an easy task as he has consistently led the Hornet Golf program in a professional and classy manner which was reflected by all Hornet Golfers on the course. I have learned a lot from Coach Hunt the past 3 years serving as the JV coach and I plan to apply many of those valuable pieces of information during this upcoming season.
“Like all Monroe Hornet teams, I will expect our players to be leaders in the classroom, the community and on the course,” Kellis added. “Our players will represent the Golf Program with respect for our school, their family, the community, and the game of golf.”
