OXFORD — The Miami RedHawks may have found their quarterback to replace Brett Gabbert.

And he’s a familiar face.

Dequan Finn signed with the RedHawks on Saturday, solidifying a recent string of successful pickups from the transfer portal for Miami.

The former Toledo star entered the transfer portal on Dec. 13 after spending the 2024 season at Baylor.

Finn was named 2023 Mid-American Conference player of the year with the Rockets, throwing for 2,657 yards and 22 touchdowns with 563 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground.

Finn played only three games at Baylor, where he was 23 of 43 passing for 307 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 66 rushing yards and two rushing scores.

Finn will compete in his seventh season of college football in 2025 and has an extra season of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He played in just three games in 2019 and reportedly applied for a medical waiver for the 2025 season.

Here are other notable portal pickups for Miami:

Brody Kosin, TE, Indiana

The redshirt freshman announced he was leaving Indiana after just one season. Kosin did not see the field in 2024.

“After a long conversation with my family I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility left, thank you to everyone at Indiana University who helped me out on and off the field,” Kosin wrote on his X account.

Austin Uke, OL, Stanford

The former four-star recruit received offers from USC, Texas, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, TCU, SMU, Penn State, Oklahoma, Missouri and Maryland among other top programs but ultimately chose to play for Stanford.

Uke, a graduate student, saw very limited action during his tenure at Stanford.

Koy Beasley, DB, Purdue

The La Salle High School graduate was considered as one of the highest rated recruits for the Boilermakers as a four-star athlete.

Beasley had chosen Purdue over offers from USC, Texas A&M, Syracuse, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Kentucky and others.

The freshman suited up in just two games for Purdue this past season and didn’t record a stat.

Cordale Russell, WR, Colorado

Russell was at TCU before heading to Colorado with high expectations as a 6-foot-4, 210-pound playmaker.

Russell had injury setbacks during the 2024 season, which hampered his contributions as a receiver for standout quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

During his time at TCU, Russell appeared in three games but had limited playing time to make an impact.

Payton Kirkland, OL, Colorado

The 6-foot-6, 380-pound offensive tackle entered the transfer portal after a brief stint with the Buffaloes.

Kirkland, a four-star recruit who originally signed with Texas in 2023, didn’t see action during his freshman season. He transferred to Colorado but remained on the sideline for the 2024 season.

Grant Leeper, TE, Iowa

The redshirt-freshman tight end entered the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining before finding his way to Miami.

Leeper saw appearances against Northwestern and Washington but registered no stats.
