Baseball

Fairfield 7, Lakota West 5: The Indians (2-5, 2-2 Greater Miami Conference) scored four straight runs in the final three innings to knock off the Firebirds (1-5, 1-3 GMC). Starting pitcher Lucas Davids went 4.2 innings, striking out seven and giving up just one run on two hits for Fairfield. Indians senior Noah Wagster went 2 for 5 with two RBI, while teammate Ayden Cline had a hit and two RBI. GALLERY

Sycamore 1, Middletown 0: The Middies fell to the Aviators in 10 innings. Kyle MacDonald and Jordan Vann each had a hit for Middletown, which slipped to 1-3 overall and in the GMC. Jamarkis Shillingford pitched seven innings of no-run, five-hit ball and struck out eight.

Oak Hills 9, Hamilton 4: The Big Blue slipped to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the GMC. They’ll travel to Goshen on Tuesday.

Mason 6, Lakota East 5: The Thunderhawks slipped to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the GMC. Lakota East visits Mason on Tuesday.

Ross 4, Taylor 2: The Rams (4-0) were led by Colby Adams (double, two RBI), Austin Farris (two singles, double, RBI, run), Griffin Mueller (single, RBI) at the plate. Carson Sackenheim allowed one earned run over six innings to get the win on the mound. Ross hosts Elder on Tuesday.

Edgewood 5, Reading 4: The Cougars (6-0) are off to their best start in over 10 years. Edgewood lost their first game before winning eight straight during the 2022 season. The Cougars host Northwest at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Madison 7, National Trail 5: Caden Johnson (2 for 3, three RBI, run), Grady Combs (2 for 4, two runs), Devin Lindsey (2 for 4, run) and Connor Robertson (2 for 3, RBI, run) led the Mohawks to season-opening victory. Robertson pitched 4.2 innings, struck out seven and gave up two hits and no earned runs. Madison’s Grady Webb pitched 2 innings to earn the win.

Talawanda 8, Northwest 1: The Brave (3-1, 1-0 Southwest Ohio Conference) moved out to a 7-1 lead after one inning and was able to hold on with the win. Talawanda, which has won three in a row, was led by Connor Sayler (2 for 3, two runs) at the plate. Kenneth Cartwright, Eddie Tanner and Ryan Wright each had a hit for the Brave. Talawanda’s Tyler Robinson (1-0) and Hunter Green combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound.

Franklin 13, Todd County (KY) 4: The Wildcats (2-3) face Hatton (Ala.) at noon in Florida on Tuesday.

Softball

Hamilton 8, Sycamore 1: The Big Blue (5-0, 4-0 GMC) are off to their best start since 2008 when they began the season 7-0 and 13-1. Reese Thieken (2 for 3, home run, four RBI, three runs) and Sierra Hoyte (2 for 4, RBI) led Hamilton offensively. Emili Schappacher pitched a complete game, while giving up one run on three hits and striking out 15. The Big Blue host Mercy McAuley at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Fairfield 15, Middletown 0: Megan Spence went 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs to lead the Indians (4-1, 3-1 Greater Miami Conference) against the Middies (0-4, 0-3 GMC). Spence also pitched four innings and struck out seven. Jillian Huey threw one inning in the circle, striking out two. They combined for a no-hitter. Fairfield’s Karley Clark (2 for 3, three RBI), Nevaeh Cornett (2 for 2, two runs) and Janelle Needham (2 for 2, two runs, RBI) contributed at the plate. GALLERY

Mason 4, Lakota East 2: The Thunderhawks fell to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the GMC. Lakota East gets back to action at home against Talawanda on Tuesday.

Lakota West 11, Princeton 1: The Firebirds scored nine runs in the second inning. Lakota West (3-3, 1-1 GMC) travels to Oak Hills at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. GALLERY

Eaton 6, Madison 0: The Mohawks lost their season opener and get back to action at home against Waynesville on Tuesday.

Mount Notre Dame 8, Ross 6: Juilianne Combs went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Kameron Commins went 2 for 4 with two runs and Kailyn May went 2 for 4 with two stolen bases for the Rams (2-1). Ross hosts Mercy McAuley at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Carroll 11, Fenwick 0: The Falcons slipped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Greater Catholic League Coed. Fenwick travels to Carroll at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Badin 8, McNicholas 3: The Rams scored five runs in the top of the seventh to improve their record to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the Greater Catholic League Coed. Badin hosts McNicholas at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mariemont 13, New Miami 12: The Vikings had the lead heading in the bottom of the seventh before giving up three runs to lose their season opener. New Miami (1-0) travels to Cincinnati Country Day at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys Tennis

Lakota East 4, Springboro 1: The Thunderhawks won their first match of the season. Lakota East gets back to action on Wednesday at Sycamore.

Boys Volleyball

Badin 3, Oak Hills 0: The Rams defeated the Highlanders 25-20, 25-12, 25-18. Badin moved to 3-5 and travels to Carroll at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
