H.S. BASKETBALL: Here’s what you need to know heading into this week

Area high school boys and girls basketball is in postseason play. Here’s what you need to know heading into the week about The Report’s coverage-area programs:

The Ross High School boys basketball team begins Division II postseason play on Monday, Feb. 22 against Wilmington at Princeton. The Rams (19-3) have won 7 out of their last 8 games and are ranked in the top 10 in the state. Leading the way for Ross is SWOC Player of the Year and senior Max Stepaniak. Rams coach David Lane was named SWOC Coach of the Year.
Monroe’s girls basketball team has won their two Division I postseason contests and will square off against Princeton on Monday night, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. at Lakota East for a chance at a sectional title. The two wins are Monroe’s first-ever Division I tournament victories in program history. The Hornets are 13-6 and led by sophomore Paige Frazier, who averages 10.7 points a game. Lakota West and Fairfield battle it out for a third time this season on Tuesday night, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. in a Division I sectional contest at West Clermont. The Indians, who are coming off a high of clinching the GMC title, own a 14-4 record. They’re led by Logan Woods and Deshawne Crim. The Firebirds sit at 15-8 and are led by Nathan Dudukovich’s 20.7 points a contest and Kelvin Turner’s 20.3 points a game.
Badin took care of its first two opponents in Division II postseason play. The Rams will face GCL Co-ed rival Fenwick on Monday night at 6 p.m. at Middletown in a sectional title bout. Lakota West (20-4) faces Mason (18-0) in a Division I sectional title contest on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakota East. The Comets downed the Firebirds two times in tight contests during the regular season. Firebirds star Chance Gray leads the way with 25.7 points a game. Lakota West has won 7 in a row. Lakota East takes on Colerain in a Division I sectional title game on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at Harrison. The Thunderhawks (10-10) have won 4 in a row and are led by sophomore Madison French’s 12.5 points a contest.
Lakota East meets up against Milford in a Division I sectional on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at West Clermont. The Thunderhawks are 15-5 and have won 5 out of their last 6. Nate Johnson leads the way averaging 17.1 points a contest.
Hamilton takes on Princeton in a Division I sectional on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. at Fairfield. The Big Blue (5-16) have lost 3 out of their last 4 and are led by 13.9 points a game from Jackson Lewis.
Cincinnati Christian plays Ripley-Union on Tuesday, Feb. 23 in a Division VI sectional at 5 p.m. at Taylor. The Cougars (7-10) have won 4 out of their last 5 contests and are led by Matthew Cardwell’s 13.8 points a contest. (PHOTO BY TARA CLARK)

Middletown takes on Mount Healthy in a Division I sectional battle on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakota West. The Middies just beat Sycamore over the weekend and are now sitting at 8-12. Badin plays Wyoming in a Division II sectional second-round contest on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Mason Middle School.
