HAMILTON — The Hamilton High School girls basketball team has been using the offseason the way it should be used, according to first-year coach Ciera George.
The Big Blue is accepting the system change rather well as the 2022-2023 campaign nears.
“The ability to want to get better and learn,” George said in response to what has stood out the most regarding her squad. “They are buying in and starting to see what I see in regards to the potential of this program.”
Senior guard Thalia Moore, and sophomore forwards O’Marionya Kirkland and Ah’Marionya Kirkland are the returning starters from last year’s squad that went 0-21 overall and 0-15 in the Greater Miami Conference.
Moore scored 4.8 points a game as a junior. Ah’Marionya Kirkland averaged 3.7 points and 3.5 rebounds a contest last season, while O’Marionya Kirkland pitched in with 2 points and 2.6 rebounds a game last year.
The other seniors on the squad are forwards Kalaia Davis and Macie Cunningham.
Freshmen Brookelyn Murrell (guard), Zariyah Bryant (center), Jaedyn McKenzie (guard), Korrine Jones (center) and sophomore Sarai Carter (guard) are some players to keep an eye on, according to George.
“We’re young but feisty with a lot of room for growth,” the coach said.
Hamilton begins the season at Lebanon on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7:15 p.m.
