Fairfield cruises to 40-6 win over Hamilton

HAMILTON — The Fairfield High football team used a little bit of everything against Hamilton.

Run. Pass. Defense. Repeat.

The Big Blue never came within scoring range in the first half and the Indians turned a marginal halftime lead into a 40-6 victory on Friday at Virgil Schwarm Stadium in a Greater Miami Conference opener for both teams.

”Our kids came off a hard loss last week, and I think it was important to come out and win this one,” Fairfield coach Jason Krause said of his squad’s 15-14 loss to Springfield. “We wanted to bounce back and I think we did that right off the bat. We played hard and we executed.

”Our kids played with some good fire at the beginning of the game,” Krause added.

Fairfield outgained Hamilton 385-108 in total yards. Nearly all of Hamilton‘s yards came on the ground, as the Indians held Big Blue to just 5 yards passing.

”We knew they were a good football team,” Hamilton coach Chad Murphy said of the Indians. “We played good D the first drive and we make them earn it. We turn the ball over, they get an easy score to take a two touchdown lead right off the bat.

”That right there was the turning point against a good football team,” Krause added.

Jutahn McClain had 149 yards on 19 carries and two scores for the Indians. Sawiaha Ellis completed 9 of 14 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown pass to Peyton Brown.

Luke Mattia had 9 tackles for Big Blue, and teammate Kaleb Johnson rushed for 99 yards on 13 carries.

Hamilton (1-2) travels to Oak Hills next week, while Fairfield (2-1) hosts Lakota West.
