BELLBROOK — For the second week in the row, Badin High School’s defense was the difference-maker.
The Rams defeated the Bellbrook Eagles 17-7 for another road victory.
Badin’s defense was going up against a Bellbrook squad that put up 406 yards of total offense the week before against Tipp City. The Rams were anchored by senior defensive lineman Logan Neu and his team-leading seven solo tackles. Neu aided big time in helping visiting Badin stop Bellbrook’s wing-T rushing attack.
The Rams (2-0) forced three and outs on the first two possessions. Badin’s offense had its struggles, though, but came to life after a 42-yard Jack Walsh touchdown run with 3:09 left in the first quarter.
Bellbrook’s Seth Borondy returned the ensuing kick-off 54 yards to the Badin 21-yard line. The Eagles came up empty when they decided to go for it on a fourth-down back at the Badin 25.
During the second quarter, Bellbrook was deep in Rams territory. Bellbrook got a holding call on the play prior. The Eagles were faced with a third and 20 at Badin’s 22-yard line.
Carson Labensky tried to make a play but ended up throwing it right into the hands of Badin’s Cameron Wright for an interception. Wright returned the interception to the Bellbrook 46-yard line. The turnover led to a Jackson Niesen field goal and a 10-0 lead with 2:20 left in the second quarter.
Bellbrook cut into Badin’s advantage on a Borondy 13-yard touchdown run. The senior running back had 165 yards from scrimmage in the first half alone, and 229 total yards.
“That No. 1 [Borondy] is a heck of a running back,” Badin coach Nick Yordy said.
Though Borondy contributed in a huge way, defensively Badin shut down any opportunity of Bellbrook making any momentum.
“When everybody does everything right, there’s not much you can do,” Badin senior Brady Imhoff said.
Imhoff also noted that he credits Coach Yordy for all of the hard work they put into practice.
The offense was able to put some points on the board to put the game away on senior quarterback Landyn Vidourek’s designed sweep from 7 yards out to extend Badin’s lead with 8:07 left in the fourth quarter. Defensive back Jeffrey Luna-Mata sealed the game with an interception.
“We rely heavily on our defense,” Yordy said. “They do a great job. There’s no secret of what they’re capable of.”
Yordy added that the offensive line did a great job late in the game when the Rams needed to move the chains.
