Badin girls volleyball aims to challenge top teams in league play

HAMILTON — The Badin High girls volleyball team is looking to regain some momentum — and a consistent lineup — in 2019.

The Rams had an unfortunate shift in success mid-season due to injuries a year ago, but seventh-year head coach Amy Horsley likes what she’s seeing from her current squad.

“We overcame adversity and stayed competitive against the top teams in our conference despite a changing lineup,” Horsley said. “Our season last year was interrupted with major injuries to a few important starters.

“This season, we look to recapture our goal of challenging some top teams in our league.”

Badin is coming off a 13-10 record in 2018, falling in the second round of the postseason to Bellbrook.

“We will be strong on defense and look to be a tough serving team,” Horsley said. “We have talent returning on our roster and added new talent that will contribute to the varsity squad.”

Returning starters are seniors Audrey Horsley (DS/L/OH) and Ella Pohlen (S); and juniors Taylor Wissman (S/RS), Sam Cohen (MB) and Emma Trusock (OH/DS).

Rounding out the roster are seniors Andrea Clark (MB/RS), Jenna Ritchie (OH), Jaelynn Scowden (DS/L) and Kennedy Wissman (DS/OH); juniors Abby Johnson (DS/L) and Hannah Moss (RS/MB), and sophomore Josie Giesting (OH/DS).

“Our schedule is tougher this year,” Horsley said, “and we expect that to be beneficial and play harder at a higher level.”

The Rams open the season at Indian Hill on Monday, Aug. 19.
