NEW MIAMI — The New Miami High School football team has been enjoying a recent surge of success during the 2024 season.
The Vikings were off to their best start at 4-1 since 2020, when they went 5-1. They snapped a 21-game losing streak in Week 1 earlier this season.
A loss to Clark Montessori on Sunday dropped New Miami to 4-2.
“The Village has pride again,” Vikings second-year coach Chris Fogle said.
Here are four takeaways from New Miami’s first half of the season:
1. The ground game
New Miami has been relying on the ground game, which is highlighted by The Report‘s coverage-area leading rusher and senior Dalson Hayes.
Hayes has rushed for over 1,000 yards and has scored 13 total touchdowns.
2. Stingy defense
New Miami’s defense has been setting up the offense, Fogle said. The Vikings have held opponents to 13.5 points a game in their four wins.
“Just having a stingy defense that creates turnovers,” the coach said.
3. The Village is back
Fogle said community support has been uplifting for the Vikings.
“We’ve had great turnouts,” Fogle said. “And all of our home games — even our away games — it’s just been so exciting to see The Village rally.”
4. Tough schedule
New Miami’s schedule won’t be easy the rest of the way.
The Vikings face Miami Valley Conference opponents St. Bernard (5-1) and Cincinnati Country Day (4-2) in the final stretch of the season.
New Miami is 1-14 in MVC games since 2021.
