2024 High School Baseball Season Snapshot
Ross Rams
Coach: Brad Voegele, second season
Last year’s record and postseason result: 20-6, lost first round to Hamilton
Returning starters: Kerry Snyder, catcher/pitcher; Austin Farris, catcher/third base; Austin Parker, second base; Ben Voegele, shortstop; Nathan Jester, third base/pitcher; Ian Busch, outfield/pitcher; Colby Adams, outfield/pitcher; Nolan Ertel, pitcher/third base; Nate Bray, first base/pitcher.
Notable stats from last year: Won 15 straight games after losing season opener to LaSalle. Finished with 20 wins. Finished 8th in the final D-I city poll. Ben Voegele broke single season school record for stolen bases.
Players to watch: Ben Voegele (UC commit), Nate Bray (MSJ), Austin Parker, Ian Busch (MSJ), Colby Adams (Salem university), Austin Farris (Rio Grande), Nolan Ertel, Griffin Mueller.
In the know: Four seniors have signed to play at the next level. Austin Farris will attend Rio Grande University in Ohio, Colby Adams Salem College in West Va, and Ian Busch and Nate Bray with Mount St Joseph. Ross also had a junior commit early — Ben Voegele to University of Cincinnati.
Quotable: “Very excited about the potential of this team,” Voegele said. “We return a number of starters from last year’s team that won 20 games. We lose our three top pitchers, but we have some guys ready to step up. We also lose two senior outfielders, but that entire class did a tremendous job of leading and grooming the next group of guys.
“Defensively, I would put is up against anyone. Up the middle, we are very strong with Ben Voegele back for his third year starting at shortstop. Austin Parker returns at second base. Both were all city and all conference. Parker hit .394 and Voegele .368. Ian Busch will compete for the CF spot after hitting .319 in 23, along with Grffin Mueller who saw action as a freshman last year. Busch earned 2nd team all SWOC honors. Losing 3 pitchers hurts but we return a number of arms that played a significant role in 2023. Nate Jester (sr) will be our closer again in 24 after playing such an important role there last year and earning 4 saves. Nate Bray (sr) will also help on the mound when not anchoring 1B. Nolan Ertel (jr) returns as a SP after a phenomenal Sophomore campaign going 4-1. When not playing the OF Ian Busch will play a big role on the mound as well where last year he was 3-0. Colby Adams also will help on the mound once again. Last year he was 2-0. Kerry Snyder will be expected to play a major role on the mound as well. In 23 he didn’t log any innings as a sophomore as he was our primary catcher.”
“We pride ourselves on doing the little things,” Voegele said. “Being the best defensive team around. Making the plays in front of us. Making outs outs! We will be a fun team to watch for sure. Aggressive on the bases. Forcing the other team to make mistakes.”
