Talawanda Brave
Mary Jo Huismann and DeAndre Williams are co-coaches for the 2023-2024 season.
This is Huismann’s 62nd year of coaching high school girls basketball, while Williams has been with the Talawanda system for the last three years.
Last year, the Brave went 23-1 overall and won the Southwest Ohio Conference (10-0) — losing in heartbreaking fashion on a last-second shot against Mount Notre Dame in the Division I district semifinals.
The lone returning starter is senior guard McKenna Weekley, who averaged 3.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists a game last year.
“We are young and rebuilding,” Huismann said. “Depending on how long it takes will determine our season. We have a few strong girls from the junior varsity team that should help.”
Huismann said she expects senior Rose Bothast-Revalee, junior Layni Short, sophomore Grace Richardson, sophomore Sadie Van Gorden, junior Olivia Naiman and sophomore Lyla Spurlock to contribute as the season progresses.
